Can I add partitions to my apartment for shared housing?
You can add partitions to an apartment only within approved shared housing: each room 5 m² per person, checked by our engineers and approved by DCD and DM.
The short answer
Partitions are allowed only as part of an approved layout (Dubai Municipality circular, reported by Khaleej Times on 8 October 2026). Each new room must give at least 5 m² per person, keep the kitchen, bathroom, dining, recreation and laundry facilities, and pass Civil Defence (DCD) review for escape and detection. We design the partitions, check the structure and include them in the permit drawings. Unapproved partitions risk fines.
